Destroy the Customer

In order to have a successful internet business, people have to use your service. The most successful businesses merely provide a system to take advantage of user generated content. Many online games, Google, Blogger, and eBay are examples of this.
Ideally, your service will actively encourage people to create new and interesting content. To do this, you must present them with an adversary, or become one. Games offer a steady stream of opponents, whether they be other players or computer controlled. Discussion boards thrive on conflict, even Google itself is only a partial solution to the information overload which its own service fosters.
In general, humans are most likely to react to danger, whether it is real or percieved. Therefore, to succeed in business, you should try to destroy your customers.

This needs to be understood as a basic component in any customer service and marketing strategy.
